Research at PMTI: History and Mission Statement
PMTI has contributed to the development of massage therapy research on a national level through participating in research projects and by training leaders in the field. PMTI is a founding member of the Massage Therapy Research Consortium, a voluntary collaboration of massage schools interested in enhancing their own understanding of and participation in research on therapeutic massage. PMTI has also presented at national conferences on massage research. Graduates such as former Massage Therapy Foundation president Dr. Janet Kahn and former AMTA president Elliott Greene have served as advisors to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine at NIH.
PMTI’s research department was established in the spring of 2005. The Research Department's Mission is:
To set the highest standard in massage therapy research through scientific integrity and innovation;
To pioneer clinical applications of massage therapy grounded in basic science;
To serve as a resource for the health care community and the general public.
