The Connection Practice - for Therapists and the Community

Instructor: Ellen Synakowski

Friday 4-9pm & Saturday 9am-4pm -- see calendar of dates below

Part I - Social and Emotional Intelligence for All

Co-sponsored by PMTI, this 12-hour social/emotional course is a synergy of elements from Nonviolent Communication and HeartMath. In Part 1, we focus on better understanding our own needs by being introduced to a simple and scientifically-proven method for building compassionate connection. With a HeartMath tool, we'll learn to bring our hearts and brains into sync. When combined, we experience the profound effects of empathy and insight.

Part II - The Connection Path: Creating Connection with Others (Level 1 prerequisite)

Course participants learn about the Connection Path, a conflict resolution tool that has the power to resolve all manner of conflicts and heal deep issues, using the synergy between empathy and insight. Additionally, participants go deeper in connecting with themselves.

Part III - Connection Mediation: Restoring Peace (Level 1 & 2 are prerequisites)

Course participants learn how to mediate using the Connection Practice. A Connection mediator builds the connection between two individuals in conflict by coaching them through the Process. And as in Parts 1 and 2, participants go much deeper in understanding themselves and their needs.

Mindfulness of the Body

An IMCW Workshop with

Instructor Jerry Hartman

Of the four foundations of mindfulness, the first and most important is mindfulness of the body. From infancy, we learn unconsciously to interpret everything that happens in our lives as pleasant or unpleasant based on how we experience it through the five senses in our body. And yet, as we grow, most of us forget this and live our lives from the neck up. Join us for a half day of meditation, short talks, and group discussions which will increase your awareness of the body. More info and register at http://imcw.org .

Jerry Hartman has practiced meditation since 2004 and has taught meditation to students in the Washington, DC area and around the country since 2007. He is a 2013 graduate of the two-year Meditation Teacher Training Institute (MTTI) of Washington, DC, and is a 2014 graduate of the Integrated Study and Practice Program (ISPP) of the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies in Barre, Massachusetts.

FREE Community Lecture Series
The Body's Security System

Friday, September 18

6:30 to 7:30pm

PMTI's Free Friday Night Talk will be a discussion of The Body's Security System. Please join us.

It will be an experiential introduction to why you -- as a bodyworker, healthcare practitioner or client -- need to know about the body's nervous system settings.

If the practitioner is not aware of being in relationship with the security system, therapeutic work can revolve around the client's reaction to the practitioner, and the session then can be artificial, unproductive, frustrating, etc, and even retraumatizing.

The internal landscape of the body lives in the eternal present. It has either let go of overwhelm points, or it has not. If it has not, these patterns create symptoms. When the practitioner creates special conditions for the body, it will share its truth, and then change begins to happen. It is possible to witness alchemical transformation on any level, through bodywork.

The discussion will be applicable to all realms of bodywork - whether you are working with tides, chakras, trigger points, Swedish strokes, fascia, etc...

Brigit Viksnins specializes in aligning bodies with health, and releasing held energies of fight, flight and freeze, which may be creating a variety of symptoms.  Brigit (MAT, BCST®, SEP, BCTMB) has created the professional training program Alchemical Alignment, which uses deep and light-touch bodywork, metaphysical principles, and verbal trauma resolution skills.  She attended Georgetown University for both undergraduate and graduate school. Since 1996, Brigit has had a successful private bodywork practice, specializing in practicing stillness, mindful touch and embodied presence.  Her work goes deeper than massage alone.  It helps decompress, organize and heal the nervous system, energetic and fluid bodies, upon which the physical body is based.

Come learn more -- all are welcome.  Please RSVP@pmti.org or call (202) 686-7046.
