Connect with PMTI in the Community

PMTI champions a passion for community caregiving by creating an environment that attracts and supports people who want to make a difference in the world through their use of massage therapy. The school’s community work focuses on advocating the skillful use of massage therapy to enhance health and well-being. Since 1976, PMTI has been reaching out to the community through its clinic and volunteer services throughout the greater D.C. region.

Here’s where you’ll find us!

Clinic and Fieldwork Programs

Our students have offered massage to:

·         Seniors

·         Professional caregivers and health care practitioners

·         HIV/AIDS patients

·        Cancer patients

·         Local law enforcement officials

·         City and county employees

Student and Graduate Projects

In addition to the connections that the school has developed, students themselves have created a wealth of community-oriented fieldwork projects. Long after graduation, many students continue to serve populations and communities in critical need.

Targeted Community Projects

PMTI was recently awarded a grant from the Susan B. Komen Foundation to open a specialized training program and clinic for the provision of massage to women with breast cancer that are otherwise financially unable to receive massage therapy.  The Institute is collecting data to discover results achieved by clinic participants for statistical research.

Special Events

PMTI periodically provides seated massage services for events that support and serve community causes, such as the Komen Race for the Cure and the DC AIDS Ride.

Touch of Relief / The Fisher Houses at Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital

PMTI continues its commitment to community outreach through its partnership with Touch of Relief, Inc.(TOR), an international non-profit organization founded and managed by PMTI alumni. TOR and PMTI currently collaborate on several service projects that have provided rich and extremely rewarding experiences for PMTI alumni who volunteer with critically wounded soldiers and their families who are long-term residents of Fisher House at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in DC, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, and opening soon in Bethesda Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD and VA Healthcare System in Palo Alto, CA.

Come change the world with us… one human being at a time.
