This FREE info session is open to anyone interested in oncology massage - whether as a professional giving the work, or to support yourself or a loved one. Meet Dr. Menefee, physician & massage therapist (also a PMTI alumnus!) to learn about the benefits of massage for cancer support. Dr. Menefee will be teaching a professional training in Oncology massage at PMTI in October 2019.  

 Dr. Michael Menefee is a board-certified physician in 3 specialties of medicine. Having treated many patients over the years who were fighting cancer, Dr. Menefee recognized the need for wellness-oriented treatment. While established cancer therapies are critical to achieving the best possible outcomes for individuals, these treatments can result in a negative impact on the quality of life for patients (and often their caregivers) beyond that of the disease itself. That is either not addressed in conventional care or not addressed adequately.

Dr. Menefee views oncology massage as a mechanism to reduce cancer-related stress and suffering, while bringing a sense of normalcy back to life during an otherwise difficult time. With his expertise in both oncology and therapeutic massage, he brings unique qualifications and perspective to the rapidly developing field of oncology massage. Dr. Menefee trained as a licensed massage therapist with subspecialty training in the evolving field of oncology massage. He completed his therapeutic massage training at the Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy, and went on to receive additional education at the Potomac Massage Training Institute. He has received training in oncology massage from two of the preeminent instructors in the field: Tracy Walton and Gayle MacDonald.
