Leah uses her intuitive ability combined with musculoskeletal and energetic knowledge to customize a session to your needs. She focuses on stress reduction, chronic pain relief and rehabilitation through deep tissue massage, stretching, positional release, energy balancing and heat therapy. Leah may incorporate Ortho-Bionomy, gentle positional release technique, into your session to calm your nerves and encourage your bodies innate healing capacity.

Leah graduated from The Cleveland School of Massage in 2004 and Potomac Massage Training Institute in 2007 and became a Certified Massage Therapist (CMT) through Virginia's State Board in 2007. She studied over 220 in classroom hours of Thai Massage Training. She founded the Metta Center in 2009 in hopes of providing her truly customized therapeutic sessions to a wide range of clientele. She became an Ortho-Bionomy Associate in 2016 and is continuing her practitioner training program. She studied her 200-YA and became a yoga instructor in 2015.

Leah became fascinated with healing through massage at a young age. She learned more about massage through her mom's guidance as she taught her how to get rid of "knots" through pressure and kneading of the tissue. Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Beloit College, it became clear that her true calling was in a field that affected people's lives directly through the healing touch of massage.

I was a librarian for 20 years before I became a massage therapist (I hold both bachelor's and master's degrees from Florida State University), and since graduating from PMTI in 2013 I'm loving this new way of serving people. I share massage office space with 5 other PMTI grads in downtown Silver Spring, and in my private practice I specialize in gentle and connected Deep Tissue focused work.  I also enjoy providing Swedish relaxation massages, and since 2015 I'm a student of Alchemical Alignment: Bodywork for Trauma Resolution and Embodiment of Spirit.  I have also studied Shiatsu and Seva Stress Release.  I am the mom to 2 teenage sons, and I also live with my husband, 2 cats, and a dog.  I strongly believe in the importance of self-care, and I practice yoga, meditation, and 5Rhythms dance, in addition to receiving regular bodywork myself.  I believe that our bodies are a great resource, and the more that we can learn to listen and respond to what our bodies are telling us, the healthier we will be, and the more joyful our lives will be.  Regular massage and other bodywork can be a wonderful tool as we strive to respect the messages that our bodies are sending us (enhancing the body/mind connection) and to translate what we learn to personal self-care.

I began my journey with massage many years ago, when I started massage therapy training and then put my dream on hold while I pursued a full time career which spanned marketing, job placement assistance and auction management.  After raising a daughter, I began to think once again about my passion.

My love of and for massage has always been evident and over many years I began massaging friends and relatives as a way to help them manage stress in their lives.

I realized my dream of becoming a massage therapist and have created a tranquil massage studio in my home in Ellicott City, MD.

I look forward to meeting you and providing you with a massage session that is tailored to your specific needs.

I am an artist, writer, mother, wife, activist, volunteer, cook, event planner and home maker. I am also a massage practitioner. Like you, I wear many hats and have wandered many roads, but through massage I have found my calling.
Going to massage school did much more for me than train me in the proper techniques for giving massage. At Potomac Massage Training Institute, I learned how to live in my body with more ease. I learned how to be grounded, how to listen to the wisdom of my body and how to hold space for others so that they can do the same. It is my mission to use my life experiences of injury, illness, loss and change along with the training I have received to create a practice that centers around creating a wholeness of being.
We all have goals for how we want to use our bodies. Some may need to sit for long hours at a computer. Others may need to train for athletic events. Some may be recovering from injuries, illnesses or emotional upheavals. Massage is a therapy that enhances the body’s own capability of homeostasis. Wherever you are in your body and whatever story led to this moment, I am here to help you create a greater sense of ease, safety and capability as you head out into your life.
