We all know the limitations of the conventional biomedical model — the system that reduces a person to their symptoms and parcels out care by specialty. As massage therapists, we often see the people that system has failed: those who don't fit neatly into a diagnosis, who've been passed from provider to provider, and who arrive on our table as a last resort.
What can we offer them that hasn’t been tried? More than most practitioners realize — and that's exactly what this workshop is about.
If you've ever sensed in your bodywork that there is more available to your clients — and to your practice — than your current structural model and modalities allow for, then look no further. This is the training that will close the loop, name those elusive approaches you’re touching on, and deliver a more powerful way for you to practice.
Bringing a somatic perspective into your bodywork means asking deeper questions: What is happening in this person's life? How are their patterns of movement, posture, and behavior reinforcing their dysfunction? A somatic approach treats history, environment, culture, and lived experience as clinically relevant — not secondary to anatomy or lab results. The results are often profound: chronic, recurring problems begin to shift and evolve, clients develop genuine awareness and control over their bodies, and healing becomes a process they actively participate in rather than something done to them.
This workshop provides a foundation in somatic principles and technique that will genuinely alter your perspective and change how you interact and practice.
You will learn to shift from muscles, fascia, and joints to focusing awareness on the nervous system, and movement — and to use your existing massage skills to activate your clients' own sensory and motor intelligence. You will also learn clinical somatic techniques from the Hanna Somatic Education lineage, a powerful methodology for unlocking chronic patterns of tension, pain, and trauma.
The course is 70% hands-on practice, 20% lecture on somatic philosophy and the neurophysiology of touch and movement, and 10% somatic self-care — practices you can use yourself and teach directly to your clients.

Gabriel Posner, Ph.D., LMT, is a Certified Hanna Somatic Educator with two decades of clinical experience, a trainer with Essential Somatics, and President of the Board of the Association for Hanna Somatics Education. His latest book Somatic Techniques for Massage Therapists will be included with this workshop.
